Happy Dr. Seuss Birthday! I hope that all of you were able to take advantage of the weather this weekend. From the forecast, it appears that we are not done with the cold and rain just yet. Nonetheless, bright days happen everyday at Burgess-Peterson Academy. Please see below for some very important reminders and updates:
Our school is currently being monitored by the East region office because of an increase in the percentage of students that have missed 10 or more days of school (includes excused and unexcused). The state of Georgia uses the threshold of 10 or more days of school as a measure of our CCRPI (College and Career Readiness Performance Index) score. We have several students that as of this point in the school year have missed 10 or more days of school. Each student in this category "counts against" our overall percentage. All parents who have students missing 5 or more days of school should expect correspondence from the school this week on a meeting which will be held to provide information and offer any support to helping our students get to school every day. We know that kids will get sick, however please keep in mind that unexcused and excused absences count the same.
Based on safety and supervision issues, tardy students will now need to be signed in by a parent. What this means is that parents will no longer be allowed to drop students off in the car lane. Please be patient as we have BPA faculty/staff outside daily until8:30am to ensure that students are brought into the building and signed in by a parent and/or guardian. Please keep in mind that excessive tardies also lead to a referral to the Social Worker. When students are tardy, they have a very difficult time transitioning into the lesson and/or may miss critical information shared during instructional time. Thanks in advance for your support in improving our attendance and tardies.
Students that are not picked up by 2:45pm must be signed out as well. All students not picked up by 2:45pm will be supervised by Ms. Robbins. Teachers begin engaging in professional development and planning at 2:45pm, therefore students not picked up by2:45pm will be with the school principal. Please make every effort to pick up any students not involved in after care programs at2:30pm.
5th Grade Writing Test
Our 5th graders are taking the GA Writing Test this Wednesday! We know that they will do extremely well! Ms. Johnson has been working very hard since August to ensure that our students are more than prepared and confident. It is imperative that ALL 5th graders are in school on time in order to take this state assessment. We are aiming for 100% attendance.
BPA...Talent Show! Please look for information this week in reference to our upcoming Talent Show! We are so excited! The show will be held this Friday, March 7th at 7pm at THE NEW Maynard Jackson High School. Please wear any BPA spirit wear to show our school pride!
